At AHATR, we perform the highest quality anesthesia safety with complete oral health evaluations and treatment. Prior to performing any anesthetic procedure all patients will undergo a pre anesthetic evaluation which includes a preoperative blood profile and physical examination. All medical conditions are addressed and an individual anesthetic protocol for each patient is put in place.

The protocol includes a pre surgical analgesic injection which will settle your pet down and take the edge off so we can set an IV catheter and get them started on IV fluids. We like to have them on IV fluid therapy a few hours prior to anesthesia and will continue their IV fluids post operatively as well. We will also give your pet an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory injection. While under sevoflurane, a pediatric anesthesia we will take full mouth radiographs to evaluate all tooth root structure as well as clean, scale and polish their teeth. Under anesthesia your pet is on a continuous monitoring system including ECG, SPO2, CO2, Blood Pressure and temperature and they are intubated to fully protect their airway. They are placed on top of and underneath a warming blanket to maintain body temperature during the procedure.  While we have your pet under anesthesia we will probe all teeth and evaluate and address any periodontal disease. If we find any additional concerns that need to be addressed there are many options for treatment. We do everything to save and repair any teeth with concerns we find. Often times treating with local antibiotics packed into periodontal pockets can prevent extraction. We also have the ability to apply a bonding agent to any teeth that have traumatic fractures or damage that may cause pain and discomfort to your pet. Our goal is to perform a complete oral health evaluation the safest and in the most pain free way as possible.;
